Thread Lifts

A thread lift is a procedure that involves the use of temporary sutures to create a subtle yet noticeable "lift" in the skin. Instead of opting for surgical removal of the person's loose facial skin, the licensed provider uses these sutures to suspend and stitch up specific portions of the skin. This technique results in a slight pulling back of the skin, effectively providing a lift and tightening effect on the face. Beyond its lifting capabilities, thread lifts contribute to anti-aging by triggering the body's "healing response," prompting a significant influx of collagen to the treated areas. This is crucial due to the pivotal role collagen plays in the aging process.

This procedure offers continuous and gradual rejuvenation for facial tissues. People opting for a thread lift to stimulate collagen will experience a progressive enhancement in their skin's tone and firmness. As long as the threads remain in position, the body's healing response stays active, aiming to "heal" the sutured areas and naturally expel the sutures. This biological reaction occurs when the body detects a foreign object in the dermis. Fortunately, because the threads inserted during a thread lift are extremely small, patients typically do not perceive any sensation of this process. Once the skin has healed around them, most individuals are unable to feel the sutures at all.

Treatments areas with thread lifts can include:

  • Eyebrow lifts
  • Jowl lifts
  • Cheek lifts

PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are most commonly used in aesthetic practices. They typically last 6-12 months, during which they are completely absorbed within 6-8 months and stimulate collagen production for another 4-6 months.

PLLA (Poly-L Lactic Acid) threads can last up to 1-2 years post-insertion and eventually be broken down to glucose, carbon dioxide, and water.

PLLA threads are often used as an alternative to fillers and botulinum toxin, as they act as a volumizer and are able to stimulate the production of Type 1 and Type 3 collagen. They are much more powerful collagen stimulators than PDO threads.

PCL (Polycaprolactone) threads, or threads have combination materials including PCL, have become more popular over the last few years. They last more than 2 years in the body and are also broken down into naturally occurring substances in our skin. Due to the length of collagen stimulation, they are more powerful threads than PDO or PLLA threads. Best used for jawline tightening, nose lift, and mid-face tissue replacement.

Silhouette InstaLift® is a treatment unlike any other. Their Micro Suspension Technology™ is comprised of micro cones that are placed in the deepest layer of mid-facial skin. It delivers an immediate lift and gradually restores lost facial volume of the mid face by activating your own natural collagen production for a more youthful appearance that continues to improve over time. The sutures and cones are made from poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA), a well-known biomedical copolymer that is biocompatible and biodegradable.

What to expect during your appointment:

After completing necessary forms, we will take photos for your chart before we start the treatment. You will then meet with a provider who will discuss your concerns and will do a consultation with a recommendation of treatment plan. The number of threads needed for desired results depends on how many treatment areas need to be done as well as skin laxity. We provide a local anesthetic to minimize any pain or discomfort you may feel. You may experience some redness, swelling, bruising, and discomfort after treatment, which typically resolves within a week.
